Each year, IFSTA accepts nominations for four awards meant to recognize outstanding leaders in the fire and emergency services industry. Named after those who have themselves changed the trajectory of IFSTA’s history with their leadership, these awards are not necessarily presented annually, but when an exceptional nominee merits recognition.

Dr. John Granito Award for Excellence in Fire Leadership and Management Research
The Dr. John Granito Award for Excellence in Fire Leadership and Management Research, which honors Granito and his contributions to the fire service and academia. Each year, the recipient of this distinguished award presents the keynote address at the annual International Fire Service Journal of Leadership and Management Research Symposium held in conjunction with the IFSTA Validation Conference.
