Dr. John Granito Award for Excellence in Fire Leadership and Management Research - Dr. Marc Kruse, Ph.D.


Please join us in congratulating Dr. Marc Kruse, Ph.D., who was presented with the 2026 Dr. John Granito Award for Excellence in Fire Leadership and Management Research.

Dr. Marc Kruse is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who earned his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and completed his clinical internship at the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies at Brown Medical School and the Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Rhode Island. Dr. Kruse is the Vice President for Research and Development at First Responder Behavioral Health, LLC, and has served as a staff psychologist for the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS since 2011. The majority of his clinical and research efforts are focused on working with fire-fighters, EMS providers, and military veterans with particular emphasis on the assessment and treatment of the behavioral health conditions most commonly experienced by these trauma-exposed populations: impaired sleep, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, post-traumatic stress, and relationship difficulties. Dr. Kruse has been involved in clinical research with firefighters from across the country and regularly consults with departments on the importance of behavioral health screening, education, and treatment facilitation for first responders.
