Fire Organization

Mike Wieder began his fire service career in 1979 as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania. While completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in fire protection, occupational safety and health, and adult education from Northampton (Pennsylvania) Community College and Oklahoma State University, Mike began his career as a student employee at IFSTA/Fire Protection Publications at OSU in 1984. He promoted through the ranks to his current position of Associate Director. In 2009, he was also elected as the Executive Director of IFSTA.

During his time at IFSTA/FPP, he has written 38 fire service training manuals and has published over 120 articles in various fire service trade publications. He serves as Associate Editor of the International Fire Service Journal of Leadership and Management. Mike has written several research reports for the United States Fire Administration and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) on the topics of emergency vehicle safety, incident scene safety, and firefighter rehabilitation. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers (FIFireE). Mike is a former member of the Stillwater, Oklahoma Fire Department and is life member of the Pennsburg, PA Fire Company No. 1.
