With extensive experience in fire protection and business administration, Craig Lee Hannan has dedicated his career to advancing fire safety and emergency services. Hannan is currently the Director of Fire Protection Publications at Oklahoma State University, a position he has held since 2009. In this role, he provides daily oversight and direction, supervises a team of 75 full-time employees, and represents Fire Protection Publications to the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology and Oklahoma State University.
Before becoming Director, Hannan served as Chief Operating Officer and Controller for Fire Protection Publications from 2005 to 2009. His accomplishments in this position included developing a consistent pricing model for all products, establishing a project costing model to identify actual costs, and eliminating products that did not meet minimum income requirements. He also worked with an external accounting firm to create guidelines for addressing unrelated business income tax issues, which allowed the organization to partner with for-profit companies for product distribution.
Hannan's experience also includes roles as an IFSTA® Projects Coordinator, Administrative Manager for Fire Service Training, and Accountant for Fire Service Programs, all at Oklahoma State University. He holds a Master of Business Administration (2005) and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (1998) from Oklahoma State University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University, respectively. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Oklahoma (2000).
In addition to his professional work, Hannan has a background in firefighting and emergency medical services. Since 1988, he has volunteered with the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department and then later the Perkins Volunteer Fire Department, where he served in several leadership roles, including Assistant Fire Chief and Training Officer. He is also a member of the Oklahoma State Firefighter’s Association Volunteer Fire Service Committee. Hannan is the past Chair of the National Advisory Committee and the current Chair of the Resolutions Committee for the Congressional Fire Service Institute. He is also a member of the NFPA 1010 Technical Committee, which focuses on standards for firefighter qualifications.
