Fire Protection Publications (FPP) is seeking applications for the position of IFSTA/FPP Training Specialist (Sales Associate). FPP is a department within the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT) at Oklahoma State University (OSU) and is the headquarters of the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA). As the world's leading publisher of high quality and technically accurate fire service training materials, FPP provides a vital service to the fire and emergency services.

As a result of a cooperative agreement between FPP and the United States Fire Administration, research findings of emergency vehicle visiblity have been completed and a report published. This agreement was primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and their National Institute of Justice. The ability for civilian drivers to quickly recognize the presence of an emergency vehicle is a significant factor in reducing the chance of a collision. This report provides information on new technologies, methods, and materials for improving the visibility of all types of emergency vehicles.

This project focused on determining the effectiveness of self-instruction as an educational methodology in promoting firefighter safety and health policies and practices within the volunteer fire service. Can self study increase knowledge and change attitudes related to volunteer firefighters and their volunteer fire department?

The research design involved pre- and post surveys, with both treatment and control groups, using volunteer firefighters from five states. The survey focused on issues of firefighter safety, from both a department policy standpoint, as well as, specific individual safety behaviors.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is being implemented across the country. The implementation has already started and brings challenges and opportunities to Fire Service-Based EMS Systems. There is urgency to the decision points presented in this major shift in EMS. But where, when, and how are leaders across the full spectrum of the fire service addressing them? Implementation may vary from state to state, urban to rural, etc., regarding some specific ACA elements, but there are also consistencies nationally that have clearly emerged:

• Partnerships between hospitals and the medical community at-large are strengthening.

• Fire Service-Based EMS service-delivery options are becoming more enhanced.

• New health care and revenue models are developing.
