Dr. Larry Collins, retired Eastern Kentucky University Safety, Security & Emergency Department associate dean, Richmond, Kentucky, completed eight years of service to the IFSTAⓇ Executive Board during the 2023 IFSTAⓇ Winter Meeting in January.
Larry has an associate of science degree in Fire Science Technology, a bachelor’s in Industrial Arts/Technology Education, and a master’s and doctorate of education in Technology Education.
Collins is a respected educator and researcher and has always appreciated the IFSTAⓇ validation process, believing it yields a superior product. Collins was first appointed to the IFSTAⓇ Executive Board in 2014 and served on the recently validated Strategy and Tactics, 3rd Edition, committee.
Eastern Kentucky University’s Safety, Security & Emergency Department is one of the nation’s premier fire and safety higher education institutions. Much of its development occurred as a result of Collins’ leadership. Collins was also an instrumental figure in the development and growth of the USFA’s Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education program.
This program was successful in developing model curriculums for fire protection and safety degrees at various academic levels. These curricula also provide the framework for IFSTAⓇ and FPPⓇ to target the development of supporting textbooks and curriculum materials for these classes.
We at IFSTAⓇ and FPPⓇ want to give a big thank you to Dr. Collins for his many years of service and for all the wisdom he has instilled in us. His time, energy and experiences were incalculable.
