Mobile Application Developer

Fire Protection Publications (FPP), a self-funded unit of Oklahoma State University (OSU), is currently seeking a person to create and manage app-based projects at FPP and the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA). This position will report to the FPP Electronic Products Manager.

The duties of this position include the following:

Programming - Includes writing code, following specifications, wireframe designs, customer feedback, correcting bugs/crashes, documenting source code, and implementing version control management.

Testing - Tests programs on a variety of devices for quality assurance. Works with others to ensure apps are fully tested and are compatible with a variety of devices. Communicates user testing feedback to the appropriate parties.

Research - Researches the latest app development technologies and SDKs. Ensures all apps meet current design and code base standards. Updates apps to be compatible with newly released devices and to incorporate new device features as needed. Attends training to stay current on device and programming language standards.

A successful candidate will have the following education, skills, and qualities:


  • Bachelor's Degree and two years of prior successful experience in application development.
  • Demonstrated experience with version control services such as GitHub.
  • Must be able to comprehend, incorporate, and adapt code written by others.
  • Strong code commenting, documentation, and version control management skills.

Fire Protection Publications, a division of the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology at Oklahoma State University, has for more than 80 years been at the forefront of firefighter education and training, producing traditionally printed texts, electronic curricula, and web-based distance learning systems.
