Jim Brinkley is the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Assistant to the General President for Technical Assistance and Information Resources. The IAFF, headquartered in Washington, DC, represents more than 317,000 full-time professional fire fighters and paramedics who protect 85 percent of the nation’s population.

Jim served for more than 21 years with the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department and 14 years on the Local 1619 Executive Board. As a member of the departmental safety committee he was responsible for evaluating/testing personal protective equipment. He was instrumental in developing the Department’s wellness fitness program and the Fire Fighter Survival Program. As a member of the local’s collective bargaining committee he helped secure better pay, benefits and safety provisions.

Jim was just elected by acclimation to his second term as local president when he was hired full time at the IAFF. Jim was responsible for directing the revisions for the IAFF/IAFC Wellness Fitness Initiative and the Peer Fitness Training (PFT) program. He collaborated with outside agencies to develop a smoking cessation and a hypertension awareness/treatment program. Jim also directed the development of the IAFF Fire Ground Survival Program, the IAFF Behavioral Health Awareness Program, the IAFF Peer Support Program and the revision of the IAFF Line of Duty Death and Injury Investigation Program. Jim represents the IAFF on numerous boards, committees and commissions. Jim also provides expert testimony to assist in arbitration cases. Jim was appointed to the IFSTA Executive Board in July 2019.
